I was Born to be a Physician
I was always interested in science and in medicine. My grandfather, Charles C Sutter, was a family physician on the west side of Evansville during the first half of the twentieth century. During college at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, I was a Forestry major with a particular interest in becoming a naturalist. I admired and studied Ewell Gibbons and his series of books including Stalking the Wild Asparagus. His emphasis was on gatherable foods, but he also delved into folk remedies such as using aloe to treat burns and witch hazel to treat bruises. I have a life-long fascination with natural remedies.

The European Perspective
During medical school, I trained for a year in Epsom, Surrey, England. The European medical system has more openly embraced and included alternative forms of medicine. The German E commission is the oldest and most comprehensive investigator of, particularly, botanical medicines and across Europe (and more recently, the US) is a widely respected source of effectiveness data.

Bringing it Back to Evansville
I did my residency in Family Medicine at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana, graduating in 2005. As part of my third year rotations, I was privileged to spend a month at the University of Arizona's Program in Integrative Medicine, founded by Dr. Andrew Weil. I was impressed at the emphasis on developing good quality evidenced-based data to support the integration of traditional medicines with conventional pharmaceutically based medicine.

Evansville Integrative Medicine is pleased to announce that Mary Beth Davis, RN has joined the practice. Mary Beth is an Evansville native with over twenty years of experience in holistic medicine. She has owned her own holistic health resources company and coordinated holistic resources for Deaconess Hospital. She is certified in Reiki, Healing Touch and Heartmath and is in the process of certifying in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She completed a Kaiser Institute Fellowship in Integrative Medicine. Prior to her emersion in holistic medicine, she worked as a cardiology, allergy and dermatology nurse. She is now offering nutritional counseling, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), and auricular acupuncture for smoking cessation, weight loss and anxiety management.
